Today we are going to cover a in depth review of Shopify vs Weebly and determine which platform will work best for your needs.

I've used Shopify as my go to platform since 2016 and it meets my expectations of what a all rounded eCommerce platform should have.

However, this does not mean it meets your expectations.

Shopify started back in 2004, so it has been around for quite some time. I've used this platform to start multiple eCommerce stores and some of them even made 6-figures and I've even dabbled with Weebly.

Although Weebly was developed 2 years after , it has proven to be a good platform to use for some.

So today I'll be covering;

  • The pros and cons of Shopify and Weebly;
  • Which one is the easiest to use?
  • Which platform has the best sales features;
  • Pricing comparisons
  • Which has the ultimate customer support?
  • Conclusions: Which is better for you?

Shopify vs Weebly Pros and Cons

Weebly Pros and Cons

Weebly definitely has the best value for money and I find it well suited for beginners who are just beginning to get their feet wet.

It offers lots of apps across a range of eCommerce needs such as sales pop, printful and paid members (subscription based pricing).

These apps are among staples for any eCommerce store and its good that it can be found on the Weebly app store.

There are cons to Weebly, which Shopify compliments quite well. The biggest let down is that you can't sell across multiple channels, such as Instagram or Pinterest.

The other thing that I found on the Weebly platform is that you're quite limited to checkout customization.

This can be important if you're trying to add a unique feel to your checkout page, such as custom branding.

Shopify Pros and Cons

It has taken the world by storm and has become the top rated eCommerce builder. High end brands and influencers like Kylie Jenner use Shopify.

They offer superior 24/7 customer support in the form of actual online chat services and issues generally get resolved within minutes and not days.

It does have its negative drawbacks, which I'm sad to say. I've used it now for all my stores and the biggest let down is that the cost of apps can quickly add up.

For some reason developers have much more premium app charges on the store than compared to Weebly.

However, if you limit apps or find a theme that includes all necessary functions then you'll be saving yourself a lot of money in monthly charges.

Weebly vs Shopify: Which one is the easiest to use?

What makes either of these platforms enjoyable is the ability to use it effortlessly. If that is not possible then no one would want either.

As I've mentioned before, I've tried both Weebly or Shopify and will provide you with my review.

Weebly offers a drag and drop system in which you can select elements and add what ever you want (kind of like a page builder).

The initial setup seems very limiting, however it is there to offer a quick setup. Setup takes about 1 minute and once you're done and finalized you can customize it in more detail.

The only issue I found was reversing changes and it means fixing mistakes or making quick edits can be painful.

So how does Shopify stack up? Although Shopify does not offer a quick drag and drop system, it has more customization.

Meaning if you had the same theme as someone else, you could have a completely different look and feel to your website. Quick edits during design are easily achieved while building your website on Shopify.

Adding and modifying products is much more simpler on Shopify as well and this is important when you're adding a lot of products to your store.

Both platforms stack up quite well in terms of modifying and ease of use. However, Shopify takes the cake in this category due to its ability to easily perform quick edits.

Which Platform has the best sales features?

So what tools does each platform have that allows you to grow your business? In this Shopify vs Weebly section we'll put each platform to the test and really see which is perfect for you.

Although Weebly is more cost effective (plans start at $18/month) on its basic plan, you're only allowed to list up to 25 items.

So the growth potential on the basic plan is quite limited for WeeblyOn the other hand, Shopify plans are at $29/month with an unlimited amount of products which can be sold across Facebook, eBay and Instagram to name a few.

Shopify also offers numerous payment gateways such as Paypal, Stripe, Amazon, Shopify payments and Apple pay. This is perfect to catering for your customers.

Weebly only offers PayPal, Stripe and Square to capture payments which can really put a strain on your business.

Shopify or Weebly: Pricing Comparisons

Weebly offers four price plans that suits starters and people who are really reeling in the money with their ecommerce business.

  • Starter: $8/month
  • Pro: $12/month
  • Business: $25/month
  • Performance: $38/month

These fees are the price per month if you were to pay for an annual basis. Although it seems appealing, I would suggest kicking off on a month by month basis which is slightly more.

The reason for this is if you're just starting out, you may not have a clear vision for your eCommerce business. So rather than forking out an annual payment, test the waters.

With Shopify, you're given a 14-day free trial in which you can evaluate all the features.

Once you've evaluated the trial, you can keep going however you need to upgrade to a paid plan. The price planse are:

Shopify simply can't compete with Weebly which is a huge let down.

However I feel that although there is a large difference between the Pro and Shopify plan the features on Shopify far outweighs Weebly.

Which Platform has the Ultimate Customer Support?

Good customer support is what every one wishes for and it's no different for you the eCommerce store owner. This is a crucial Shopify vs Weebly issue that needs to be addressed.

I've used Shopify customer support to resolve certain issues with the platform and I've had these issues solved within minutes and not days. Customer support is renowned for being easy and simple.

They offer 24/7 phone support and also live chat, email and social media help. They even have a knowledge centre so that you can check with others to resolve issues.

Weebly does offer regular phone support on their lowest tiered plan however I haven't heard good things about this plan. If you're not satisified with this, then upgrade your plan so that you can get priority support.

Shopify definitely offers more superior support for their customers, and this probably makes up for the difference in the fee structure.

Conclusions: Is Shopify or Weebly Better?

Both platforms are good for any eCommerce store owner but there are a few differences to watch out for.

One thing you need to keep in mind when choosing a platform is whether you are just dabbling or going to build a 6-figure empire.

Weebly is good for your every day store where you selling goods to $100 a day. However if you plan to do more than this I definately recommend Shopify.

Shopify will offer you a good foundation that you need in order to scale your business to 6 figures and beyond.
